Founded in 1679, Stellenbosch is the second oldest town in South Africa and is renowned for its historical buildings, its university and its wines. The painting is not a realistic image of this beautiful town, but it depicts an image of the buildings and feelings of the painter's memories of Stellenbosch: the  Motherchurch in Dorpstreet, old Hoofgebou and various other main buildings as well as the memory of having coffee at a streetcafe.
