The painting portrays the skyline of Johannesburg with it's main buildings. The composition and colours are not correct, but this is done on purpose to depict a atmosphere of loneliness amongst the energy of a very busy city. Johannesburg is also called "Egoli", the Zulu name for "City of Gold". Johannesburg is SA's biggest city and began as a 19th-century gold-mining settlement, hence the name Egoli.
