The painting depicts a typical French restaurant in Paris. Under normal circumstances the cafe would be packed with people eating and drinking and enjoying themselves. Because of the danger of catching Covid19, a worldwide lock down banned everyone back into their homes, hence the empty cafe.
This is not a realistic image as everything would normally be locked up when closed, but depicts the emptiness and sadness of the situation. Everything is there as usual, but for the people.
